Aurora Antique Keys
From 1891 to 1907, the city now known as Aurora, Colorado was called Fletcher. The town was named after its original founder, Donald Fletcher, who stayed in the city only two short years after founding it.
The population at the time was comprised of overflow citizens from the nearby city of Denver. Because the area was still wilderness, the citizens felt the need to protect themselves from any vagrants that may be using the wilderness as cover while traveling through the area.
Even in the earliest days of the city, locks were a common sight on doors. Although they were considered a sign of distrust of neighbors in cities like Denver, the locks in Aurora, Colorado were viewed as necessary safety items for every person.
Locksmiths quickly realized that the citizens of Aurora were markedly different from the citizens of Denver in that the Aurora citizens wanted big locks and keys. The citizens of Denver wanted small, fashionable locks and keys.
Many homes in Aurora still have at least one antique lock on an interior door, which must be preserved to avoid losing an important historical artifact. Most of these locks are still manipulated by the original keys that are over a century old now. Even the ones in the best condition are worn around the edges and at least slightly weathered.
In an effort to keep the antique locks and keys fully functional and visually appealing, homeowners schedule must regular cleaning and service appointments with a master locksmith in Aurora. It allows early detection of potential problems with the lockset can be found before irreparable damage is done.
